From Loro, ascend towards Poggio di Loro and San Clemente in Valle. At the cross-roads, bear right for San Clemente as far as the next intersection. Leave that road to the left, and continue to the right towards Trevane, which overhangs the intersection with the road, to the left, for the Castle of Trappola. To the right, ascending for 2.600 m, you will arrive at Chiassaia (altitude: 770 m).

The village of Chiassaia, crossed by the road that leads to the cross-roads for Faeto and Anciolina, shared the fate of the entire territory, which had been devastated by the wars between the powerful feudal lords of the Valdarno and the growing power of the Commune of Florence. It was constituted into a Commune. The ruins of a fortress, located at the top of the mountain of Caval Morto which towers above it, can be recalled. Today, every trace of them has been lost.
The church of San Salvatore currently has a rectangular design. An elongated apse facing east branches off on the right wall. It was presumably the remaining part of the older church, which perhaps collapsed and was then enlarged towards the north in the style that is to be found in many other churches in the area. A woodenbaldachin [for the exposition of a monstrance], carved in the form of an exedra, is to be found inside the church.
At Chiassaia there is a bakery that produces a very renowned schiacciata [flat bread], as well as a food shop with a small bar.
Located a short distance from Chiassaia, 1.200 m downstream, is the little village of La Villa di Chiassaia, made up of very few houses. These seem to confirm the slippage downstream of the settlements that were originally enclosed within the ancient castles.
Along the road between Chiassaia and La Villa there is a fountain of spring water enclosed within an arch of stone wall.
