From Loro, ascend in the direction of Poggio di Loro andSan Clemente in Valle, and bear right at the cross-roads for San Clemente as far as the following cross-roads. There, leave that road to the left, and continue to the right towards Trevane, which overhangs the cross-roads with the road – to the left – for the Castle of La Trappola. Go right and, ascending for 2.600 m, you will arrive at Chiassaia (altitude: 770 m).
At present, the church of San Salvatore is rectangular in design, like many other churches in the territory which are apparently of the same epoch. On the right wall commences an elongated apse that faces east. This would lead us to suppose that it is the remaining part of the older church which perhaps collapsed and was then enlarged in a northerly direction, with the form that is usually found in many other churches in the area. Inside the church there is a wooden baldachin [for exposition of the monstrance] carved in a semicircular shape.
The village of Chiassaia is crossed by the road that leads to the cross-roads for Faeto and Anciolina. It shared the fate of the entire territory, which was devastated by the wars between the powerful feudal lords of the Valdarno and the growing power of the Commune of Florence. It was eventually constituted as a Commune. The ruins of a fortress located at the top of the Caval Morto mountain towers over it.
At Chiassaia there is a baker’s shop where a very renowned schiacciata [flat bread] is made, as well as a food shop and small bar.
The small village of La Villa di Chiassaia is located a short distance from Chiassaia, 1200 m downstream. It is made up of only a few houses, which seem to confirm the slipping towards the valley of the settlements that were originally enclosed in the ancient castles.

The visit takes 20 minutes.
